The Caixa Econômica Federal issued a warning about a new scam involving the Bolsa Família, a government income transfer program in Brazil. Criminals are using SMS messages and social media to deceive victims by promising benefit payments or the release of funds. In the scam, the messages request that beneficiaries click on links or share personal and financial information, such as CPF (Brazilian individual taxpayer registry), passwords, and bank account numbers. Caixa emphasized that it never requests personal or financial information via SMS, social media, or direct messages, and that any official communication from the bank or the Bolsa Família program is made through institutional channels. The goal of the scammers is to collect sensitive data to carry out fraud, such as identity theft or financial scams.

To avoid being a victim of this type of fraud, Caixa recommended that Bolsa Família beneficiaries and the general population remain alert to suspicious communications and avoid clicking on links sent through unsolicited messages. Additionally, any questions regarding the benefit should be verified directly through Caixa's official channels or the official Bolsa Família app
